Telehealth Virtual Physiotherapy

Virtual physiotherapy allows you to use your own computer, tablet, or phone to remotely connect with your physiotherapist in real-time.

What is telehealth physiotherapy?

Telehealth physiotherapy is a virtual physiotherapy appointment that takes place from the comfort of your own home or workplace.

How do I virtually connect with my physiotherapist?

You can use your own computer, tablet, or smart phone to connect with a physiotherapist in real-time. All you need is a relatively fast internet connection and a device (computer, tablet, or smartphone) equipped with a camera, speakers, and a microphone. Learn more

When can I schedule a virtual physiotherapy appointment?

Our physiotherapists are available for telehealth appointments during our regular clinic hours, Monday to Friday from 7am - 7pm. Like our Nanaimo clinic, our virtual telehealth appointments are closed on holidays.

Does extended health care cover telehealth physiotherapy?

It depends on your plan, but many different extended health plans cover all or part of the cost of telehealth physiotherapy. Check with your insurance provider directly for details on the coverage you are entitled to.

Do you offer direct billing for telehealth services?

Yes, we offer direct billing to select insurance providers. Currently these providers include Canada Life (Great West Life), Sunlife, Manulife, Medavie Blue Cross, Pacific Blue Cross, Green Shield Canada, and WorkSafe BC.

Who can benefit from telehealth physiotherapy?

Telehealth is a great option for anyone who can not attend an appointment at our downtown Nanaimo clinic. Limited mobility or transportation, restrictive schedule, young children at home, extended travel/time away, rural locations, poor weather, or illness, self-isolation, and quarantine are all reasons to consider telehealth.

What happens during a telehealth physiotherapy appointment?

During a telehealth appointment our therapists will:

  • Assess and diagnose your problem
  • Listen to your concerns, while giving you full attention and reassurance
  • Explain how to manage your pain/condition
  • Outline what activities will alleviate your symptoms, as well as those that may exacerbate your pain/injury
  • Provide education and self-management techniques
  • Develop a home exercise program
  • Advise on an appropriate follow-up schedule
  • Recommend necessary equipment as needed, such as braces, tape, orthotics, etc.
  • Direct you to other services when appropriate

What is telehealth physiotherapy best used for?

Both physiotherapy assessments and follow-up sessions can be done virtually.

Some conditions that may benefit include:

Muscle strains, joint sprains, back/neck/shoulder pain, tendonitis, pelvic floor dysfunctions, TMJ (jaw) pain, post surgical pain/restrictions, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, scoliosis, plantar fasciitis, poor ergonomics, postural dysfunction, and balance and coordination issues.

Ask your therapist if telehealth physiotherapy is right for you!

How do I access telehealth physiotherapy?

Pinpoint uses the Physitrack platform to conduct secure telehealth appointments. Here’s how we make sure your virtual sessions are safe and easy to complete.

Schedule your appointment

You can call the clinic, send us an email, or book online. Your credit card information will be collected at the time of the appointment, but you will not be charged until after your appointment.

Fill out the intake forms

Intake forms will be emailed to you as soon as you book your appointment. Returning clients get to skip this step!

Get the PhysiApp

Prior to your appointment, your physiotherapist will email you instructions and login info for PhysiApp, the companion app to the Physitrack platform. You can access PhysiApp online using a web browser, or download their free dedicated iPhone, iPad, and Android apps.

Log in to the PhysiApp

Log in to PhysiApp with your supplied credentials a few minutes before your scheduled appointment. Your therapist will join the call at your scheduled appointment time, and you will be in real-time audio and video contact for the duration of your appointment.

Tips for optimizing your telehealth appointment

  • Set up your device so you are hands-free, as you will likely need to move during your appointment
  • Have enough space to move around but still be in view of the camera on your device
  • For the best sound quality, wear a set of headphones equipped with a built-in mic (not required)
