Electrophysical techniques include: Ultrasound, Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS), Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES), and the application of heat or cold to an injured area.
Each techniques serves different purposes: for example, ultrasound is best suited for injuries such as ligament sprains and tendonitis; TENS works best on increased muscle tension and heightened pain sensitivity; and NMES is most appropriate for patients with post-surgical muscle weakness.
